Candida albicans - consensus

A Consensus Candida albicans MLST scheme was established to provide a reference scheme for typing of C. albicans and to allow unambiguous comparison of data between different laboratories. This new scheme uses a set of 7 internal fragments from different house-keeping genes (AAT1a, ACC1, ADP1, MPIb, SYA1, VPS13, ZWF1b), 4 of which (ACC1, ADP1, SYA1, VPS1) were part of the original 6-genes scheme. This 7 gene set should become the international standard for C. albicans MLST.
Primers for the amplification and sequencing of the seven gene fragments can be obtained here.

The consensus C. albicans MLST scheme has been developed by Marie-Elisabeth Bougnoux in the laboratory of Christophe d’Enfert (Fungal Biology and Pathogenicity Unit at Institut Pasteur, Paris, France. ), and Arianna Tavanti in the laboratory of Frank Odds (Department of Molecular & Cell Biology at Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, United Kingdom. ).

The initial database contains the profiles of 279 clinical isolates and will be updated with new profiles at intervals. Those performing MLST on this species are encouraged to submit their data to the curator (M.E. Bougnoux) so that the strain details can be added to the database.

The seven loci and the primers used for the consensus C. albicans MLST
The consensus C. albicans MLST scheme uses internal fragments of the following seven genes :
AAT1: Aspartate aminotransferase
ACC1: Acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase
ADP1: ATP-dependent permease
MPI: Mannose phosphate isomerase
SYA1: Alanyl-RNA synthetase
VPS13: Vacuolar protein sorting protein
ZWF1b : Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
